Technological Advancement: Dress Made From Fermented Wine

Scientist Gary Cass, contemporary textile artist Donna Franklin and a team of scientists have collaborated in creating the ‘micro’be’ bioalloy’ project; an exploration of cultural biosynthesis of microbiology. The garments are created with wine and acetobacter, without using traditional methods of garment construction, through the formation of a cellulose substance which is then removed from the shape it grows onto, taking shape whilst wet.

The garment represents interesting and unique technological advancements towards developing new materials and garments. It is a possible movement into a newfound sustainable and environmentally sound fabric and could possibly be developed into a practical form of attire.
